Home / Diamond Buying Guide

How to find out which Diamond is the Best for you!

Buying a Diamond is pretty much similar to buying a car – which means that you need to consider various factors that are important to YOU, rather than stressing yourself by looking for an ideal one. For example, while buying a car, you would consider factors like Mileage, Luxury, Space, Comfort, Driving experience, and Price. And when you find a car which gives you the best combination of all of these – You go for it

Similarly while buying Diamonds you need to get to the Basic 4 Cs of Diamonds and understand which ones are important to YOU. Let’s understand each one of them with a hint of our recommendations

  • The 4 C's

    1. Cut

This is the most important aspect of a Diamond. It is the play of lights which gives you the sparkle you are paying for. Ultimately, the way a Diamond reflects light totally depends on the proportions of its Cut, Polish & Symmetry. If all aspects are in Ideal proportion, it will give you the best Brilliance.

    Fiona Tip:
Always go for an Excellent Cut Diamond. Remember that the price difference between an Excellent cut Diamond & a Good cut Diamond of the same size and Color & Clarity grade can be nearly double. We are sure now you understand why!

    2. Color

We all know that colorless diamonds are the most expensive and the best. But we still think that color preference is subjective and depends on what Hue of Brilliance you would like to have. If you are the one who hates the yellow tinge from a Diamond then you should go for the G H I color family. Some of you prefer the super white Hue for which the D E F family is the best. For the ones who would not mind the yellow tinge and wish to trade off the color against size preference, the J K L color group can be chosen.

    Fiona Tip:
Our recommendation is to play safe and go for H color since after setting in white gold it will give you the look of a G color Diamond. And remember no one out there is a Gemologist to guess that exact color of your Diamond!

    3. Clarity

This aspect of a Diamond works more on the psychological level since it determines the purity of the Diamond. You should know that inclusions till SI1 are never visible to the naked eye. So this shall never affect the Brilliance of your Diamond. There are substantial light blockages in a diamond of clarity SI2 and below. Any inclusions from VVS1 to SI1 are only visible under 10X magnification. So you need not be obsessed with the clarity of the Diamond. Also, it is not that if you buy a Diamond with lower clarity grade you might have a hard time selling it, since you would have paid substantially less while purchasing the same.

    Fiona Tip:
Clarity of VS2 is a good buy if you would want to invest the saved money on the size or the color of the Diamond since those 2 aspects are the ones visible to the naked eye

    4. Carat

The carat size is the unit to measure the weight of the Diamond. Remember that gold Karat is the measurement of purity which is different from Diamond carat! And as we all know that with Diamonds it is always Bigger the Better. So remember – The bigger a Diamond you buy, the more expensive it gets.

    Fiona Tip:
Always check the diameter of the Diamond for the size in mm, since many times you could get a 2 carat diameter with a 1.90 carat Diamond which could save you a lot of money!

  • CERTIFICATION

    Certification

Certification is like the property paper of your solitaire which has a unique identification number on it and the same is also inscribed with laser on your Diamond. This laser inscription also has the logo of the Gemological Laboratory and can be read using a 10X magnifying loupe or a microscope. The most trusted laboratories worldwide are Gemological Institute of America (GIA), Hoge Raadvoor Diamant (HRD) & International Gemological Institute (IGI)

    INVESTMENT VALUE

In the Luxury world right from expensive Bags, Shoes, Clothes, Art pieces, Cars and Diamonds there is only 1 thing that holds value with time which are Diamond Solitaires. You can pass them on from generations and they will still hold value for a lifetime. There is neither any wear & tear nor do they fade away with time. So truly Diamonds are your Best friends which stay with you Forever!

  • DIAMOND CARE

    Diamond Care

You can clean your diamond jewellery by simply soaking it in lukewarm water and adding some shampoo. Take a soft brush and clean all the dirt in the prongs and internal gaps of your jewellery. Once you do this it will be as good as new. Remember that any kind of soap, oil, perfume etc can settle on your jewellery which can suppress the light reflected from your Diamond.

The best way to keep your jewellery clean and new is to NOT wear it while bathing. This prevents soap and dirt entering the internal areas which are difficult to clean.

If at all the dirt on your jewellery is too stubborn just bring it to one of our stores and we shall polish and clean it up for you for FREE
